Mortlach

Mortlach 16 (Flora Fauna)

Jeff – 96

A great whisky that has it all, complexity well balance, just a  big sherried dram. A smooth lightly smoky finish. A truly great whisky. One I pour very gingerly when company is over.

In my opinion, this is one of the best whiskies in the world. The perfect Speyside, which offers rich, full flavor with amazing drinkability. By far the best of the Flora & Fauna line. It’s almost criminal that Diageo doesn’t offer a distillery bottling of this great whisky. Since most of the production goes into Johnnie Walker, this dram is difficult to find. If you can find it, horde it at all costs.

Nose: Big and rich, floral, ripe Macintosh apples, almonds, sherry, oranges, touch of smoke, butterscotch coming through at the very end
Body: Full
Finish: Long and smoky balanced by sherry; warming

A truly GREAT Speyside.

A young grassy whisky aged only in American Bourbon. To me it's a little harsh but you'll pick up some nice nutty notes notes with a hint of sweetness. The body is pretty nice and light, but then the finish loses it for me.

Spirity and a little rough around the edges. A decent honest dram that's not
very distinctive. Mortlach truly shines when it's finished in sherry casks and
this one is straight American Bourbon.

Nose: Young & spirity, rough around the edges, deeper notes of vanilla
Body: Light, fresh
Finish: Dry, a little untamed, malty

The subtle floral hints are nice, but doesn't have that beefy chew on a steak like the Mortlach 16 flora fauna. This whisky has a nice nose with a nice smoke to it. Easy drinking smooth whisky. I wish the sherry was more pronounced.

Glen – 80

A nice dram with a short but flavorful finish. Easy drinking and smooth.

Nose: Malty, oak, hints of vanilla and heather
Body: light
Finish: Short, flavorful, sweet, oak

A classic rich and syrupy Mortlach that stood up well to the 16 year old Flora Fuana expression that’s in my top ten. Big, assertive and impressive, there is nothing like a Mortlach that’s aged in sherry casks. The nose was fragrant with sherry, fruit and spices. The body was rich and syrupy while the finish was big and dry. A winner.

Nose: Sherry, spices, fruity
Body: Rich, syrupy
Finish: Big, dry, sherry, holiday spiced cookies, long and flavorful

A rich big sherry monster & a classic Mortlach.
