Oban

Oban 14 (A Classic Malt Selection)

Jeff – 95

One of my favorite whiskies.  When I take a sip of Oban it sends me back to standing on the water's edge of the beautiful town of Oban, with the waves crashing in the sea. The fresh salt air and the beautiful scenery captivates you. Oban whisky tastes so much like its' surroundings and culture. The nose gives you that gust of the sea air. The body is smooth and complex with a hint of salt. The beautiful finish leaves your mouth with a wee hint of smoke. A truly great whisky and if you ever go to Scotland, make Oban one of your stops.

A great spicy dram that’s well rounded and has something of everyone. Has gotten more rare and the price has increased dramatically. A firm scotch that has some smoke. More of an Island taste then Highland.

Oban Distillers Edition

This whisky is finished in Montilla Fino casks, the 'double matured' It has hints of sweet tobacco' and fruit to fill your mouth. This whisky is very smooth and hard not to enjoy.

This is a rare and difficult to find Oban so I was very excited about trying it. Let’s just say my excitement didn’t last long. A very subtle and understated dram that I had to prod to discover its secrets. The nose was surprisingly grassy with hints of earth and heather while the remainder of the dram retained that Oban spiciness. Good but it just never seemed to move me.

Nose: Subtle, grassy, earth, very light, heather, some peat, a hint of brine
Body: Medium, sharp and warming
Finish: Medium to long, spicy, floral

If I was offered this and the standard 14 yr old Oban, I’d choose the later

Oban 32

Jeff – 98

This whisky is my all time favorite. Everything about this whisky is perfect to the nose, body and finish. A limited addition that never got the notoriety it deserved. The first time I took a sip of this whisky I called my wife and said I might not be coming home, I'm in love with a 32 year old. If you can find it, It's worth every penny.

Glen – 89

A great whisky but I'm not as big of a fan as Jeff. I struggled to get the water right with this cast strength dram. You don't want to add too much water and ruin a whisky that pushes three hundred green backs a bottle.

Nose: Vanilla, floral, spice
Body: Heavy, fills the mouth
Finish, Gentle, long, spicy

If you're an Oban fan and have the $, go for it.
